music creation is due for an upgrade.
The best music is often the result of a collaboration between at least two people. While designers and developers have benefited from a growing selection of online collaboration tools, musicians have largely been left behind. If you want to write, learn, or rehearse music with other musicians, there are few tools available to do so in realtime using the internet.
midiwire is here to shake things up for musicians.
midiwire
Realtime remote collaboration for digital musicians.
midiwire is a new platform that allows digital musicians to collaborate in realtime across the internet. With midiwire, you get a room with a low latency connection to another musician. Both musicians can use a MIDI controller to learn, write, and rehearse songs.
Without midiwire, musicians must use video conferencing services that are not optimized for making music. If you've tried making music remotely, you know how impossible it can feel.
Designed for the internet age, midiwire combines old and new technology to make realtime remote music collaboration a reality.
faq
Who makes midiwire?
midiwire is the first service created by LiveShowy, a new music creation company based in Dallas, Texas. Co-founders Owen Bickford and Stone Filipczak are both musicians and full-stack web engineers with a passion for making tools that foster creativity.
How is this possible?
We use some of the same peer-to-peer technology as video call apps, except we send a fraction of the data. midiwire is more like a chat room but for musical notes.
What devices can I use?
All you need is a computer, a MIDI keyboard, and a stable low-latency internet connection. With everything connected, you can join a room at midiwire.com and start collaborating.
What are the limitations?
Low latency is critical for realtime music collaboration. Latency varies between locations, and isn't necessarily correlated to distance.
When will this launch?
Beta launch is planned for Summer 2024. We will be announcing more details in the coming weeks.
